Safety

For stays of less than 30 days, you can obtain a “Visa on Arrival” upon arrival at immigration for 500,000 Rupiah. You can also apply for this visa online at: https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/. This visa can be extended once. Ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months upon departure from Indonesia.

It is recommended to schedule an appointment with GGD or your doctor before traveling to Indonesia to receive personal health advice.

Local Laws

Indonesia has a tropical climate, with daytime temperatures averaging around 30°C year-round. In higher-altitude areas, temperatures can be cooler. You will experience tropical weather, where strong sunshine may alternate with heavy rain and thunderstorms. The rainy season lasts from September/October to early April, with increased rainfall and storm intensity. The best time to visit Indonesia is from April to September.

The currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah (IDR). For the latest exchange rates, visit: http://www1.oanda.com/currency/converter/. ATMs are widely available in Indonesia and can be used with Dutch/Belgian bank cards and credit cards. Make sure your bank card is activated for transactions in Asia. Cash Euros or US Dollars can be exchanged at money changers throughout the country.

  • Sumatra & Java → 5 hours ahead of the Netherlands/Belgium
  • Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi → 6 hours ahead
  • Maluku & Papua → 7 hours ahead

During winter time, the time difference increases by 1 hour.

Indonesia operates on 220V. Power outlets are compatible with Dutch plugs. It is advisable to bring a power strip, as many hotel rooms have limited available sockets.
